Mayor's Message

The month of March was a busy one, but one filled with several events that typify why our community is so special.

I was proud to swear in the 4th police officer in my first ten weeks in office on March 12th, 2024.

The 2nd annual LEADS Graduation was held on March 14th, 2024.  The HHPD continues to do an amazing job with this program that teaches our children the dangers of drugs and alcohol.  Council members Sue McGuire and Bobby Bing continue to represent being our Police Commissioners.

Our Department of Public Works held a very successful shredding event on Saturday, March 9th, 2024.

The DPW did an excellent job installing a winter blanket over the soccer field at Woodland Park in December 2023 and the outstanding results were evident when the blanket was removed in early March.  Council members Mike Sickels and Charlotte Sodora continue to work closely with our DPW superintendent Lenny Masucci, who continues to go above and beyond in his efforts to keep our community beautiful.

It was my pleasure to officiate two more weddings in the month.  I do require a $50.00 donation to one of the following community non-profit organizations:

  • HH Junior Football
  • HH Soccer Association
  • HH Little League
  • HH Friends of the Library
  • HH Chamber of Commerce
  • HH Food Pantry
  • HH Men’s Association

Reminder, if you have not renewed your dog’s license, you are in violation of our borough ordinance.  Council members Charlotte Sodora and Joe Samperi are doing a great job as our Health Commissioners.  I also want to acknowledge Ms. Laura French, our Board of Health Secretary, for her excellent work.

The amazing volunteer HHFD continues to handle so many emergencies.  An example of this was on Sunday, March 18th, 2024, when a tractor trailer and SUV accident led to the closing of Rought 17 North and the vehicle winding up in the area of Riser’s Ditch.

I was thrilled to participate in the Read Across America Programs at both Euclid School on March 6th and Lincoln School on March 8th.  A huge thank you to Betty Chiu, the librarian at Euclid School, and Cindy Capozzi, the librarian at Lincoln School, for two successful events.

The Recreation Department ended a busy successful winter sports season with several of our basketball teams winning championships. Rec wrestling hosted two major Tournaments and had 5 wrestlers place in the NJ State Championships.  They are now transitioning into the spring sports season.

Finally on Saturday, March 30th, my bunny buddy, the Easter Bunny came for the Annual Easter Egg Hunt held at Depken Field.  A huge shout out and thank you to our Borough Clerk, Michelle Sery, for organizing this fun event.
