Mayor's Message

The Hasbrouck Heights Little League Annual Opening Day Parade kicked off the busy month of April on Saturday, April 6th. I had the honor of throwing out the first pitch and unfortunately bounced 2 sliders into the dirt. Former Yankees Great, Mariano Rivera, would have been ashamed.

On Monday, April 8th, the Library hosted a Solar Eclipse Party. A huge shout out to our Library Director, Mimi Hui, Councilwoman Sodora and everyone who contributed to such a fun-filled event!

It was my pleasure to represent The Children’s Dyslexia Center of Hasbrouck Heights, an excellent organization, at a wonderful brunch held at Season’s on April 14th.

I am happy to report that the initial planting of our Tree Program has commenced. Many thanks to Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco for the shared services equipment program that allowed us access to utilize the mini excavator for this program. A huge thank you to our Public Works Department Superintendent, Lenny Masucci and his team for executing this task. Thank you to Councilman Sickels and Councilwoman Sodora who continue to work and support our Public Works Department.

On Saturday, April 20th, we held the first ever Hasbrouck Heights Softball Opening Day Parade and commemorated Coach Frank Gasparino and Coach Tony Bonillo with the unveiling of signs at the two softball corners named in their honor. Special thank you to Councilman Bing and Councilwoman McGuire for all their help with this event.

Also on Saturday, April 20th, the HHFD held a very successful Boot Drive to benefit Fire Chief Mike Greco’s nephew, Jon Benkovic and his family. The fire department has had another busy month in April. Many thanks to our brave volunteers who continue to do an outstanding job, especially with the house fire at 125 Franklin Avenue. Also, a shout out to Patrolman Cosimo Marino rescuing the family pet during that same fire.

I was happy to officiate another wedding for a very happy couple. The Board of Health kicked off the HH Walking Group down at Depken Field being held every Tuesday and Thursday from 10am-11am. Thank you to Councilwoman Sodora and Councilman Samperi for their continued support.

Our HHPD has also been keeping busy. I would like to thank them on behalf of the residents for apprehending 3 individuals on Sunday, April 21st at Walgreens on multiple drug charges. Many thanks to Councilman McGuire and Councilman Bing for continuing to work with the department to keep our borough safe.

On Wednesday, April 24th, I had the privilege to MC the Taste of Hasbrouck Heights & Friends. A huge shout out to Mimi Hui, the Friends of the Library and the Hasbrouck Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce for another fun evening filled with delicious food and drinks.

Finally, on Sunday, April 28th, I was able to attend the Lincoln School Outdoor Classroom Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Celebration. Congratulations on this exciting achievement!
